I love my work. Aside from the satisfaction of helping hundreds of people each year to live a more passion-filled life, I am blessed to witness the authenticity brought through the human journey.
Let me explain.
An elderly client of mine comes to the office frequently accompanied by her husband. He usually brings an IPOD and listens to music or watches a video. However, one week he brought his telephone. With my client in the relaxation room, and the music starting to softly play, I started what in hypnosis is know as the induction, the introduction of the trance state. Soon, I became somewhat distracted as I could hear every word of his telephone conversation.
At a suitable pause point, I popped my head out the door, caught his attention from down the hall and putting my fingers to my lips made the quiet sign. All was quiet until the next telephone call. Once again, I could hear everything he was saying – loud and clear. Finding another suitable point to allow my client to go inside and process, I slipped out of the room and went into the waiting area.
“Sir,” I said as I pointed to the sign posted on the wall, “This is a quiet zone. We can hear everything you are saying.”
He looked at me, and dryly replied, “Don’t worry; she hasn’t heard a thing I’ve said in 37 years.”
Yes. I love my work.
